В штаб-квартире ЦК РКРП в Ленинграде хранится этот необычный портрет Владимира Ильича Ленина, выполненный пастелью. Автор - народный художник СССР Юрий Владимирович Пугачев. На первый взгляд кажется, что художник несколько нарушил пропорции и не обеспечил портретного сходства. Однако, история создания этого портрета разъясняет замысел мастера и его актуальность для дня сегодняшнего.
Художник длительное время хотел приступить к написанию портрета Владимира Ильича, но никак не мог найти связующее звено между изображением и современностью. Просто воспроизвести сходство с фотографией казалось ему делом малополезным. И вот, наконец, в 1982 году Юрий Владимирович Пугачев нашел тот главный вопрос, который связывает нас, сегодняшних коммунистов, с вождем и учителем. Ленин с его портрета как будто смотрит на нас утомленно-изумленными глазами и спрашивает: "Как же это вы оплошали, товарищи?". В то время очень немногие коммунисты осознавали, что в партии, строящей новое общество, явно что-то идет не так.
Сегодня, когда на родине Октября мы имеем ситуацию временного (мы в этом уверены) поражения дела Октября, когда вовсю наступает реакция, подчеркнем, что для такого момента Владимир Ильич ставил задачу коммунистам "сохранить ортодоксальность, то есть революционный характер партии". А возвращаясь к портрету Ленина, выполненному художником Пугачевым, и вглядываясь в глаза Владимира Ильича, хочется сказать ему, что действительно мы оплошали, дали маху, виноваты, но, как вы сами говорили, разбитые армии хорошо учатся.

This unusual portrait of Vladimir Ilyich Lenin, made in pastel, is kept at the headquarters of the Central Committee of the Russian Communist Party in Leningrad. The author is People's Artist of the USSR Yuri Vladimirovich Pugachev. At first glance, it seems that the artist somewhat violated the proportions and did not provide portrait similarity. However, the history of the creation of this portrait clarifies the master's intention and its relevance for today.
The artist wanted to start painting a portrait of Vladimir Ilyich for a long time, but could not find a link between the image and modernity. Just to reproduce the resemblance to a photograph seemed to him a matter of little use. And finally, in 1982, Yuri Vladimirovich Pugachev found the main question that connects us, today's communists, with the leader and teacher. Lenin from his portrait seems to be looking at us with tired, amazed eyes and asking: "How did you make a mistake, comrades?". At that time, very few Communists realized that something was clearly going wrong in the party building a new society.
Today, when in the homeland of October we have a situation of temporary (we are sure of it) defeat of the October cause, when the reaction is in full swing, we emphasize that for such a moment Vladimir Ilyich set the task for the Communists "to preserve the orthodoxy, that is, the revolutionary character of the party." And returning to the portrait of Lenin, made by the artist Pugachev, and looking into the eyes of Vladimir Ilyich, I want to tell him that we really made a mistake, made a mistake, we are to blame, but, as you yourself said, broken armies study well.
