The supporters of the so-called “Euro-integration” have mobilized all the forces and means to get people to the streets, after Viktor Yanukovich refused to sign the Agreement on the association of the Ukraine with EC. Initially the actions of the opposition were presented as a “peaceful”, “democratic” protest. Nevertheless pretty soon there appeared strong doubts in this respect. From the very beginning the “Maidan” protest had a very obvious nationalistic component in it, and starting from a certain stage, the nationalistic agenda began to dominate it completely. This process culminated itself in the demolition of the monument to V.I. Lenin in Kiev and in the beating of activists of the Confederation of Free Trade Unions of the Ukraine and of the activists of a leftist group “Borot’ba” (“Struggle”). It’s time now to give an assessment of the current events.
Geostrategic aspects of the disagreement
It's not likely that any of the “Euro integrators” protesting against Yanukovich has ever read the document that he refused to sign, whereas as little of the Customs Union’s supporters are ready to try and analyze the class essence of this union as well. When we consider the issue carefully while preventing the torrents of myths and illusions to penetrate our consciousness, we can easily see that there takes place an ordinary division of the Ukraine between two imperialistic unions, i.e. between EC and the Customs Union. It’s essentially the issue of whether the “independent” Ukraine will be dominated by Russian or European oligarchs. Our position regarding this issue reads as follows: both imperialistic unions are reactionary and all hopes for the “Euro Integration” on the one hand and for the “closer ties with Russia” on the other hand shall not bring any improvement in the state of ordinary working people, as in both instances there is only decided which team of capitalists will rob the working people of the Ukraine and the natural resources of the country in the nearest future.
Internal aspects of the “Euro Maidan”
Despite the fact that the opposition coalition is formally composed of very different political forces, starting from Nazis from “Svoboda” (“Freedom”) and up to the more moderate “Udar” (“Blow”) and the liberal “Bat’kivschina” (“Fatherland”) the essence of the politics displayed in the course of the events is unbridled anticommunism and Nazism. The demolition of the monument to Lenin was especially characteristic due to the fact that this particular monument wasn’t just a symbol of the Great October Socialist Revolution, but also a symbol of the victory over Nazi Germany. This monument was erected in Kiev right after the city had been liberated from the German occupation as a symbol of the first State by the working people and of the victory of its Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army over fascists. Here we can see whose successors are the participants of “Euro Maidan”. It’s obvious that the supporters of joining the Ukraine to EC don’t chose the best that can be found in Europe, quite the opposite – they took up the most reactionary, the gloomiest and the most brutal aspects of the European heritage, the aspects that the working people of Europe used to fight against with arms. The attacks against the comrades from
“Borot’ba” and against trade union activists also bear witness of the intolerance by the participants of “Euro Maidan” towards Left and Communist political movements as well as towards independent workers’ organizations that is characteristic of any type of Fascism.
All this allows us to characterize the party “Svoboda” (exactly the representatives of this party had to do with the vandalism towards the Lenin’s monument and with the attacking leftist activists) as a social-fascist organization and the militants of this organization should be treated like fascists. “Svoboda” is not just a party that is ready to use fascist methods of administration; this is a movement that adheres to the most reactionary form of Fascism – i.e. Nazism, that we spent so much lives of our people to defeat during the WW II. It’s not for nothing that they support exactly the most unashamed manifestations of sympathy with, and even the glorification of German Nazis’ accomplices, like erecting monuments and naming streets to commemorate those criminals. The remaining more “moderate” organizations (like “Udar” and “Bat’kivshchina”) are in fact accomplices of the Nazis from “Svoboda” while they don’t only prevent the actions by the Nazis, more than that – they cover and provoke them.
The reaction of the “Civilized World”
Quite characteristic is the reaction by the western “democratic public” that has actually sided with these fascists while ignoring the unbridled manifestations of fascist mayhem in Kiev. This proves again the fact that both Nazism and Liberalism share the adherence to the unlimited Capital freedom’s principles, i.e. the principle of exploitation of man by man, and that when it suits their interests, they can easily come to terms between each other despite their outer differences. Nowadays it can be increasingly observed that the so-called freedom of Europe is in fact the freedom to revive Fascism, whereas the rights of working people and their political parties are violated there. This can be further illustrated by constant attempts to equate Fascism to Communism that had defeated it and to ban Communist symbols and Communist organizations in a number of East European countries (eg. Baltic states, Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic etc.).
All this has been taking place against the background of creeping fascisation of power in the Russian Federation, the fact that in turn looks especially dangerous when considering the authorities’ indulgence towards local neo- Nazis. We’ve actually faced the danger of a real rebirth of the Nazi threat on the territories of the former Soviet Union, the country that defeated Fascism.
Working people headed by working class cannot allow this! The only way out is the struggle by the working people!
We blame the regime by Yanukovich that has brought the Ukraine to such a state, and we resolutely insist that there is no real alternative, but for an independent, organized struggle by the Ukrainian working people in alliance with the working people of other countries against the threat of fascist advance. In case the working people of the Ukraine, Russia and of all other former republics of the USSR don’t recognize the seriousness of the current state and act as independent political subjects, tomorrow there could be too late.
The working class of the Ukraine in alliance with all working people must have their say and show their activity, in particular in the streets. We cannot leave the streets to the euro-fascists! There should be the third force that would simultaneously oppose both the anti-popular bourgeois authorities and the fascist opposition! The third force in question can be represented only by the organized working people headed by the working class of the Ukraine. The working people of the Ukraine should struggle against the fascist threat by way of self-organized workers’ militia, by strengthening the anti-fascist workers’ front, class trade-unions and joining the ranks of the Union of Communists of the Ukraine. We also suggest that both Russian and Ukrainian people, the people that won the battle against Fascism should apply all means to make their governments take measures against fascist blackguards, in particular their entry to Russia must be banned, whereas Russian ant-communist fascists must be denied the right to enter the territory of the Ukraine. Working people of Russian Federation and the Ukraine should never forget that the actions by the authorities there actually facilitate the growth of neo-Nazi organizations. We should constantly reveal the hypocrisy of the authorities, when on the 9th of May they portray themselves as successors of the great Victory, whereas after the parades are over, they quickly “forget” about it and actually go on following the cause of the traitors Vlasov and Bandera. Let them be held responsible for their words, as soon as they announce this day to be an official state holiday.
We also address those naive people who truly believe in the “charms” of the “European Integration”, and who go on selflessly freezing in the Maidan, while considering their actions to be the struggle for the future of the Ukrainian people. We are not against “Maidans” as such, we are against Nazi Sabbaths. One must struggle with the system and not follow the Nazis. Don’t let the followers of Hitler deceive you once again, disregard their campaigns!
We cannot finally defeat Fascism until we defeat Capitalism, that’s why the Socialist Revolution is the only way to exhaustive and final victory over Fascism!
No – to the fascist Sabbath! Yes – to the new October!
We are in favour of the union between working people of Russia and Ukraine to fight parasites and exploiters, the union against bourgeois authorities both in the Ukraine and in Russia!
